Tate Modern
We went on trip to the Tate Modern whilst there we saw the Harry Callahan and William Eggleston work. On the way we took photos trying to think and be like street photographers i found it quite hard to take photos of people i didn't know it made me feel quite uncomfortable i took some of people but i stood quite far away. I think seeing how they took photographs on the street didn't help my confidence because I feel like they ,make it looks simple but when you try to be like them you don't want people being angry or getting annoyed with you so I felt seeing them have such confidence made me feel like I was doing something wrong but its not as easy as it looks. Seeing their work helped me a lot seeing that street photography isn't just people or just interesting buildings it could be anything and you can make it interesting and eye catching if you wan to like take it from a certain angle or try and make something funny out of such simple building or person.
Harry Callahan
This is one of my favourite Harry Callahan pieces because its so simple but he makes it look really interesting, The composition is quite central but you get interested by the broken windows on the left and to the right there's little balcony's which attract your attention. Also your not sure whether your looking at doors or windows because a few look like windows whereas others look like doors. The houses seem to look very simple and quite boring but when you look at this image I feel like it really draws you in you want to know what happened is there a story behind them? or do people still live there?
William Eggleston
This is one of my favourite William Eggleston pieces I like this because the colours are really vibrant and you really notice the green of her t shirt. William was one of the first people to use dye-transfer printing he discovered it when he taught at havard he found it was the cheapest and the ultimate print. I really like the slightly off centred composition and they the background is quite interesting. You can see a car behind her and a sign thats really clear. It really pulls you in because of the bright colours and the background is interesting you want to look at it and find out whats behind the women and see what she's like. I wonder if he knows the woman in his photograph? and does he live in or know the area well?
